We will have a quiz on chapter 2 on Tuesday next week, October 28th.
Today I gave out the chapter 2 worksheets (they can be found in the Notes and Worksheets section of this web page). For homework, students are to do questions 1-4 on page 43 and questions 1-4 on page 47. If students do not have their text book home with them, a pdf copy can be accessed by following the directions on the Notes and Worksheets section of this page.
For the quiz review, I have asked students to do a series of questions from the book. Here are the answers to all the questions in Chapter 1... I did not ask students to do them all. They have a list of the required ones.
Today I gave out a terms review sheet in preparation for the quiz on Monday. Please do the first page for homework tonight.
We have a quiz coming up for Chapter 1 on Monday, October 6, (Day 4). The powerpoint and booklet that I have been using in class can be found in the "Grade 8 Science Notes and Worksheets" section of this website.
And welcome to my blog! This is my science page for 8-2 at MDJH. Students have been asked to make sure they come to class prepared with something to write with and have a binder or a duotang that they can put their handouts in. A few sheets of looseleaf would not go astray either. Since class started, we have been working on Lab Safety. Here is the set of worksheets about Lab Safety that I gave out in class... they can also be found in the GRADE 8 NOTES AND WORKSHEETS section of this web site. AND we are having our first quiz next week on Wednesday on all the Safety information we have been talking about in class. The things you will need to know for the quiz are the WHMIS symbols, safety equipment in the lab, and how to act safely in the lab.
All of the Scientific Literacy exams that had been given out in class and their answer keys have been posted. Good luck with your exams. It has been a great year and I am really happy to have been your teacher. You are all great kids. Have a safe and happy summer. See you next year!
We now have all of our unit work completed for the year, and all testing has been done. Any unit notes that students have lying around can be recycled, they are not needed for exams. All we have left to do now is review for the Scientific Literacy Assessment that is being held during exam week - Thursday, June 19, in the morning. A bunch of practice worksheets and exams can be found in the notes and worksheets section of this web page.
There will be a quiz on Chapter 7 and part of 8 mid next week. Watch this space for details. The worksheets and slideshows are now available online. Last class, we took a look at the Bill Nye video on Fluids (the worksheet we used can be found in with the Unit 3 documents). Next class, we are going to have a look at non-Newtonian fluids - cornstarch and water to be exact. Non-Newtonian just means that when Newton described fluids back in the day, he talked about them having predictable viscosity that was affected by temperature... non-Newtonian fluids don't follow The rules that Newton came up with. The viscosity of cornstarch and water is affected by pressure, not temperature. Here are a few videos to demonstrate. |
