Hello Everyone,
I hope you all got out to enjoy the nice sunshine over the past few days, it is not so nice here today, although the rain is going to melt some of that leftover snow! YAY! There is a new Google Classroom for all the grade 7 science students in MDJH. The joining code has been sent to you and your parent's email. Please go join - I see some of you already have, but I would really like to see all of you there. There are some activities being posted in there to keep you in the loop and keep your brains working while we are on this extended break. Nothing you do will be graded, so no pressure! Go on in and have a look, see what your classmates have said and put a comment in yourself. New stuff is being posted there all the time. I have attached a couple of pictures to let you know what I have been doing. Ruby and Otis love going for snowshoe walks in the woods. The chocolate chip cookies I made (mixture btw) did not do so well with social distancining... One of them spread. OH NO! They were delicious though. Take care of yourselves, Ms. Power Dear students, parents and guardians of my grade 7 science class,
I hope this message finds you well. I miss you guys already. As I am sure you are all aware, there will be no classes for students in the coming weeks. I have no idea how long this will go on for so I am doing my best to make sure the materials online are up to date so you don't get left behind with the curriculum. The Science Department has just met, and I am writing to let you know what preliminary plans we have so far. In grade 7 we have essentially completed Unit Sc7.2 on Heat. The Unit Test that was planned for Friday is cancelled (obvs), and the student's mark for the unit will be based on the quizzes already recorded in PowerSchool. Going forward, I encourage students to move on to explore the next unit - Unit 3 Heat. The textbook, all the workbooklets, (and answers) worksheets and quizlets are online on my website (http://bethpowerhomework.weebly.com). Further resources will be added as we continue. My website http://bethpowerhomework.weebly.com will be the resource hub which I will continue to update as plans are developed and resources are assembled. We wait for direction from the District about how to help you guys learn in these unprecedented circumstances, and we will share information as we receive it. Stay tuned for stuff on Google Classroom as well. I have opened up the chat feature so you can go hang out there if you want. I understand that each student and each family is different in what will work best to support your children in their learning during this time. This material is provided so that you can make use of it in whatever way works best for you. I remain your teacher and am committed to supporting you whether we are in the school building or not. If you have questions, about science or anything else I can help with, I encourage you to email me and I will do my best to answer in a timely way. Thanks, take care of yourselves Beth Power
Students have all submitted their science projects and we are presenting in class now. The school science fair will be held on March 12. It will start during school in the afternoon and continue after school. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the school science fair and as an incentive, they will get 5 extra marks on their project just for being there! Students will need to stay for the first round of judging at least, which will end at about 3:30. Please register for the fair using the form below.
The quiz for chapter 5 has been set for Tuesday, February 18.
Students were introduced to science projects during class on January 30 and 31. We spent the classes on sciencebuddies.org looking for ideas and preparing their project idea and early project plan (which are due on Monday, February 3.) All files and instructions can be found in Google Classroom. The final project is due on March 3 the school science fair will be held on March 12. Grade 7 students are required to complete a science project. They are encouraged but not required to participate in the school fair, however, they are strongly encouraged to attend and if they do, they will get a 5 mark bonus.
There will be a quiz for Chapter 4 on Wednesday, December 18, day 3. Students have their review sheet that must be completed for homework if they did not finish it in class.
The quiz for chapter 2 will be on November 7, day 4. All review materials can be found on the Notes and Worksheets section of this website.
Our field trip to the Botanical Gardens had to be cancelled but we have been able to schedule another field trip to the Fluvarium on November 14, periods 4 and 5. The cost will be $10, which includes bussing and admission. We go rain or shine so please dress appropriately. Here is a copy of the permission form. I will be giving them out in class.
The schoolyard project was due today. Students who did not finish their pamphlet were asked to bring it home and finish it for tomorrow. The quiz for chapter 1 has been set for October 8, Tuesday. Notes and review materials can be found in the Notes and worksheets section of this website.
